Elevating Your Home? What You Need to Know and Do
-
Elevate Your Home
https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20230425/elevating-your-home-what-you-need-know-and-do
One of the most common retrofitting methods is elevating a house to a required or desired Flood Protection Elevation (FPE). When a house is properly elevated, the living area will be above all but the most severe floods (such as the 500-year flood). Several elevation techniques are available. In general, they involve (1) lifting the house and building a new, or extending the existing, foundation below it or (2) leaving the house in place and either building an elevated floor within the house or adding a new upper story.

From Angie W – Untied Way Hernando:
Our hearts are with those who have already lost so much. What our team, and what you as a leader can do for our community now, is share valuable information in an effort to help others.
FRC: The Family Resource Center will be hosted at the Weeki Wachee Area Club at 7442 Shoal Line Blvd, Spring Hill, FL 34607 beginning tomorrow, Saturday, September 28th 9am-5pm and will be on-going through the week. This is a one stop place for individuals looking for information, supplies, resources, or meals. The county will kick off with select partners for the time being to distribute resources, basic necessities, and collect unmet needs. Will reach out as unmet needs are further determined and if additional Members are needed on-site.
DONATED ITEMS NEEDS: Tomorrow’s FRC will be telling as far as what residents need the most. But at this time, it’s safe to say we compiled a short listed of needed items such as garbage bags, gloves, bleach, cleaning supplies, putty knives, etc. See attached image. It’s can be dropped off at the Weeki Wachee Area Club starting Saturday, September 28th from 9am-5pm. All items will be used for residential clean up needs, either directly distributed to residents or used for volunteer muck-out efforts.
• If you prefer to donate online to help with disaster relief purchases or unmet needs, visit UnitedWayHernando.org/Give (scan QR code above) and select your donation as "Disaster Relief Fund".
DEBRIS REMOVAL: Share the attached image from HC Gov on curbside debris removal that will begin tomorrow, Saturday, September 28th and will continue until debris removal has been completed. Only storm generated debris will be collected. For residents with questions regarding the debris removal pick up, a debris hotline has been established 833-307-5580 and will open 8am-5pm beginning Saturday, September 28th.
REPORTING DAMAGES: The county has launched its “Self-Reporting Damage” option. This is for residents to capture and share their storm related damages. Cases will be evaluated by the Unmet Needs Committee & COAD Members as needed, but does not guarantee assistance.
REQUESTING VOLUNTEER HELP: As previously mentioned, we encourage Crisis CleanUp to be utilized. Residents can easily call the hotline number for Hurricane Helene 1-844-965-1386 to list their needs. This will allow volunteer groups to view a dashboard of needs, add, directly claim, and assist residents with efforts such as muck out, tree work, tarping, debris & garbage, mold remediation, rebuild, & more. Services are of course contingent upon volunteer availability. As a COAD, partners can familiarize themselves with Crisis CleanUp (www.CrisisCleanUp.org). Volunteers have the ability to sign-up under an affiliate organization, where unmet needs and residential clean-up cases can be logged and claimed. After making a user profile, please view the training videos. This Crisis Clean-Up initiative will be discussed further at this coming Monday, Sept 30th’s 9:30am virtual COAD Meeting, thanks to our friends at Team Rubicon. More to come.
